Art Mural for the local Sun Hill Junior School
2 Dec 2022
Art Mural for the local Sun Hill Junior School. The old 12m long wall in their playground/sports area was badly in need of renovation, re-design and painting.
The rainbow theme linked with the Healthy Relationship Project - School Values “STARS” – Strive, Trust, Aspire, Resilience, Support- Make a difference.
Artist Jess Thorn was selected to work with the school. She oversaw the complete task from design to completion. During lessons with Jess, pupils were introduced to the wall art of American artist Mike Perry, whose style the children related to: colour, texture, shapes and doodling.
Determined teams of students from the Junior and Perins school, overseen by Jess and Amy (Perins MAT), mixed and painted throughout the Summer Term. All worked extremely hard in a heat wave and rain storms. I attended one exciting mixing session with hands-on participation of Sun Hill pupils, all experiencing the art for themselves. Final painting was in the Autumn Term
12.10.2022 - Opening Event – Whole school, staff & myself, as TASA representative were present.
The resulting “STARS “ Mural is meaningful to Sun Hill Junior School; it is bright, bold and contains a handprint of every child and member of staff in the school. This was no mean feat. Space was also left for new school cohorts to add their handprints in years to come. The wall now welcomes everyone visiting the school from the side entrance and certainly enhances the well-used playground and sports area.
TASA should be pleased with the schools’ committed efforts. The local TASA funding covered all the materials with some small amount given to Jess for her hard work in this project.
The Staff and Pupils gathered for a photo of the outcome. Thanks were given by Amy Craig for TASA’s involvement enabling this project; followed by my congratulatory words on the splendid art mural.
