Dear Members of the Arts Society West Cornwall,
Welcome to our first newsletter for 2023. We wish you all a Healthy & Happy New Year.
The first lecture of this season takes us into the exploding world of Cornelia Parker OBE RA. Parker is one of Britain's best-loved and most acclaimed contemporary artists. Using transformation, playfulness and storytelling, she engages with important issues of our time, be it violence, ecology or human rights, messages to blast us into this year.
Next month our February lecture continues our theme for this year’s programme, focusing on ‘human creativity’ when we present the first ‘modern’ painter’, Tiziano Vecelli ~ Titian.
At this February lecture, we thought it might be fun to have a tabletop book sale. If you are anything like me, you now have a pile of books lying about without shelf space that need a new home. We plan to sell your donated books for £2-£10 depending on size in the Refectory after the lecture. Please do root around, have a clear out and bring along what you can. The raised funds will continue to support TAS Young Arts events as part of our community support programme with art-led opportunities for local youth.
Lastly, on 26th January there is a TASWC Membership visit to the Tate St Ives. We have a few places left, so if you fancy a specialist-led tour of Barbara Hepworth: Art & Life, Tate St Ives Exhibition & after lunch, a tour of the Sculpture Museum, you can book online today.
I look forward to welcoming our new members and our loyal members back on Thursday.
All the best

FEBRUARY LECTURE

Titian – ‘The First Modern Artist’
Tough, astute, and ambitious, Titian is often seen as the first 'modern' painter. Using a brilliant new style of painting, he cast his influence over every painterly painter of the next four centuries.
