The Arts Society Maidenhead celebrate their fifth anniversary
8 Jul 2023
Theresa May, MP for Maidenhead, congratulated The Arts Society Maidenhead on their five-year anniversary at their July lecture on Monday 19 July 2023. She spoke warmly to members about the value of the arts and had even noted that we had visited her home village of Sonning-on-Thames. Marsha Elms, our honorary president spoke briefly about how she set up the society and persuaded local companies to sponsor us. The excellent July lecture, Rosamund Bartlett speaking on 'Tchaikovsky and the Russian Ballet' followed.
The following evening, Tuesday 20 July, we held an Anniversary Event at Dawsons Auctioneers, a major sponsor at the time of our set up, at their new premises in Cordwallis Road, Maidenhead. There were short talks by Eloise Clark, our Chairman, Felicity Sykes, the Chiltern Hills Area Chairman and Marsha Elms, our honorary president. Aubrey Dawson gave a fascinating lecture on 'Fakes and Forgeries'. Members enjoyed Anniversary cake and Prosecco. The Homemade Cake Company had kindly donated additional cakes. Members were able to have jewellery or other small items valued by the Dawsons' experts. It was a lovely evening when members were able to spend time together socially.
