On the 7th March some of our members visited Apothecaries' Hall in Blackfriars Lane. We had been enthused by a Zoom lecture given by Briony Hudson about the decorated jars used to store medicines, finally our visit was able to go ahead.
Apothecaries' Hall is a magnificent historic building, as we went through the archway and into the building we walked into a recreation of an apothecary's shop, resplendent with jars, bottles and equipment.
Our tour took us through the wood panelled rooms as our guide told us about previous Masters and their skills. The portraits looking down at us as we stared up at them were impressive, as we learnt about botanists and the development of the medical profession from its earliest beginnings.
We had an opportunity to admire the collection of medicine jars and stained glass windows.
