On August 15th we enjoyed a superb presentation looking at the history of musicals. John playing pieces to illustrate the talks was an added bonus.
The talks took us back to the early days of music hall and then moved through the years to the modern era. After lunch John looked at some famous tunes in more detail and showed how they moved from the stage to being chart topping successes.
Who would have thought that 'The Impossible Dream' had been performed by quite so many people and how did Shirley Bassey keep 'As Long as He Needs Me' sounding so wonderful across so many years? John also looked at 'The Lambeth Walk' and we added the 'Oi' as our contribution to the afternoon!
All of this was complemented by a delicious buffet lunch and the sun shone - a very relaxed and enjoyable day.
