‘Wonderful Things’. Tutankhamun: The Boy King. His Tomb and Treasures with Lucia Gahlin
The final lecture of our 2023-2924 season was outstanding. Lucia kept us enthralled as she described the unearthing of Tutankhamun’s tomb by Howard Carter in 1922 was arguably the greatest of all archaeological discoveries.
The name of this boy-king conjures up wonderful imagery and mysterious tales of the pharaohs. In this lecture Lucia explored this unusual tomb and its iconic treasures; the design and decoration of the most famous tomb in the Valley of the Kings; Carter’s discovery and what happened to the incredible wealth of funerary goods found within.
We enjoyed the all background stories to these fabulous treasures, from Tutankhamun’s gold funerary mask to his ornate board games, and the art on the walls of this extraordinary tomb.
We commenced the morning with Pimm’s and Nibbles which gave us the opportunity to talk to Lucia and share ‘Egypt stories’ as well as meet friends before the summer break.
