THE TRENCHARD COX ART HISTORY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP 2021- Call for Entries!

15 Jan 2021

HOW TO APPLY

The Trenchard Cox Art History Abroad Scholarship was established in memory of Sir Trenchard Cox, a former president of NADFAS (now The Arts Society), and is run jointly by The Arts Society and Art History Abroad. It is an annual award open to 16-18 year olds inclusive, and the prize is a place* on a two week Art History Abroad (AHA) summer course in Venice, Florence and Rome. The scholarship candidates must submit two 400-word essays: one on a work of art they love and one on a piece that they loathe. Past topics have ranged from Tracey Emin's Bed to the National Theatre and from Rembrandt's Jewish Bride to Picasso's Guernica.

The Scholarship awards the winner the value of an Art History Abroad 2-week summer course ( (£4,300 in 2021) in Italy. AHA courses are led by enthusiastic tutors who will bring the art of the Renaissance and the culture of Italy to life. The scholarship is open to all, but is particularly intended to encourage students who do not have a scholarly interest in art history. It will be awarded as result of a competition, which invites an imaginative, though not necessarily art historical, response.
